About Worship Today

  • This period in the Church year is known as “The Season after Pentecost” or “Ordinary Time.”  The term “ordinary” refers to how the New Testament passages are generally read in order or in sequence, as opposed to being arranged by specific theme as in other seasons.  During this season the Gospel passages focus on Jesus’ ministry, how he is revealed to the world as the Christ, and what he teaches to his followers. In Year A (the first in a three-year cycle: A, B & C) most of the Gospel passages are from the Gospel according to Matthew. When Track 1 is used, the Old Testament Lesson is read in thematic sequence throughout the summer, in Year A we will read from the Pentateuch (first five books of the Bible).  The New Testament Lesson is independent of these readings and is almost always taken from one of the Letters in the New Testament that reflects the common life and mission of the first Christian community.
  • The Holy Eucharist, the principal act of Christian worship on the Lord's Day and other major Feasts, and Daily Morning and Evening Prayer, as set forth in the Book of Common Prayer, 1979, are the regular services appointed for public worship in the Episcopal Church. At Christ Church we celebrate the Holy Eucharist every Sunday, and also on Holy Days and other occasions.
  • Today’s liturgy is from the red Book of Common Prayer 1979.  All hymns are taken from the blue Hymnal 1982 or other authorized hymnals for use in the Episcopal Church. All hymns are reprinted with permission under OneLicense.net A713125.
  • Today's Lessons can be found at the Lectionary Page (Track 1)

Dr. J's Notes:

  • Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the defining creative figures in Western music, composed his only oratorio, Christ on the Mount of Olives, in 1803, at the threshold of his great, heroic period. The work presents the drama of Christ in Gethsemane with striking immediacy, beginning with His anguish and acceptance of His fate and moving toward the ultimate promise of redemption. Beethoven brings the oratorio to a thrilling conclusion with the radiant chorus “Hallelujah,” as the full orchestra and chorus proclaim Christ’s victory and the glory of God. The music has the dramatic force and irrepressible forward momentum that are unmistakably Beethoven.

CHRIST CHURCH, 1415 Pelhamdale Ave, Pelham Manor, NY

Emotions and Imagination are expressed through a kaleidoscope of color in Dorothy’s artwork. The use of vibrant paints has always enriched her and left her with a feeling of peaceful happiness. Bold colors can’t help but capture the viewer when they enter a room.

The figures, animals and landscapes come alive through the excitement and passion of color. The vividness of the canvases helps convey the story, meaning and emotion of the paintings.

Ms. Cancellieri has taught art and yoga enrichment programs in elementary schools throughout Westchester County. She has been a member of the Mamaroneck Artist’s Guild since 1988. Her Works have been shown in numerous exhibits including the Upstream Gallery in Dobbs Ferry and the Brother Chapman Gallery at Iona College.

Wednesday, October 21, 2026, 7:00 PM

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Christ Church welcomes Modus Operandi Orchestra (MOO), under the direction of Music Director Justin Bischof, for a concert on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM. The program celebrates the extraordinary richness of American orchestral music, opening with Aaron Copland’s iconic Fanfare for the Common Man. Samuel Barber is represented by the brilliant Toccata Festiva, featuring organist Eugene Lavery, the luminous Adagio for Strings, and Knoxville: Summer of 1915, featuring soprano Katherine Whyte. The concert culminates with Howard Hanson’s sweeping Symphony No. 2, the beloved “Romantic,” one of the great American symphonies of the twentieth century. Join us at Christ Church for this festive musical celebration of America at 250.
