Join us for a Free Guided Tour of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and Cemetery in Mt. Vernon on

Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m.      Children welcome.

A church has stood on this National Historic Site, just over 1.5 miles from Christ Church, since 1665. Work on the current church was underway when the Revolutionary War began. Near the shifting battlefront, it was used as a field hospital for American, British and Hessian soldiers. Some of their remains are in the adjoining cemetery, as are those of enslaved people and many others of interest.

The current church was finished in 1788, and served as both a church and a courthouse. It houses one of the oldest working pipe organs in America, and has in its tower a bell cast in the same London foundry that turned out the Liberty Bell.

After the Revolution, St. Paul’s went from being an Anglican to an Episcopal Church in 1795. It hired the 49-year old Rev. Robert Bolton to minister to its parish in 1837. He went on to found Christ Church in Pelham in 1843 – but juggled both parishes until 1846.

The hour-long tour will be given by park manager, Dr. David Osborne. We will meet at 897 S. Columbus Ave. 10550
