September 6, 2025
Dear Friends in Christ,
I am pleased to announce that I have called Liam Myers as our new Director of Children and Family Ministries. Liam will begin at Christ Church this Sunday, September 7, as we begin our Sunday School program year for 2025-2026 and offer the Blessing of Backpacks.
Liam is originally from Wisconsin and has lived in New York City for the past 5 years. He studied music at St. Norbert College and earned his Masters of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary. His passion for teaching and sharing the gospel is at the center of his vocation. He is the Parent Coordinator at the Manhattan Comprehensive Night and Day High School which is part of the New York City Public School system. He has served as an Adjunct Professor of Religious Studies at Iona College. He has also served at Metro Hope Church in Harlem as a Children's Church Teacher. He has written for National Catholic Reporter and the Catholic Worker Newspaper.
Liam will oversee the Parish’s ministries for families with young children. He will oversee our Sunday School, Youth Group, and other children and family ministries. Liam is tasked with offering Christian formation and fellowship for children, teens, and families in our parish, and providing age-appropriate resources, programs, and spiritual training at church and home. Because he works full time for the NYC Public Schools, Liam will most often be present at Christ Church on Sundays. He will continue our weekly email and other communications to families.
I hope that you will be able to join us this Sunday, September 7, as we welcome Liam to Christ Church. At the 10:00am Eucharist on Sunday, September 21, we will include a special commissioning prayer for Liam as he begins his new ministry at Christ Church. That service will also be when our parish choir resumes, and we will have a wonderful reception hosted by Walters Hot Dogs after church that day.
In Christ,
The Rev. Matthew Hoxsie Mead
