This past week we temporarily installed two Neumann TLM 102 cardiod Microphones in the choir to supplement the two onmidirectional Earthworks microphones that are mounted over the front pews in the nave. During the cleanup this summer of the music office and choir room we discovered these Neumann mics in their original boxes in the back of a closet. After testing them out, we discovered they worked perfectly, and so we installed them.

These Neumann mics are high end professional studio microphones that will, because of their placement, dramatically improve the sound of our music (choir and organ) on the livestream. A cardiod microphone is directional, and they are aimed at the choir, so you will now be able to hear our individual singers and also get a real sense of stereo from the choir and organ.  The Earthworks microphones are also very high quality, and they are meant to pick up sound from the entire room. Together, they give us a much deeper and richer sound with much clearer definition from the choir and the organ without being any louder.

Over the next few weeks the microphones will be permanently mounted and installed.  This past Sunday we were working out a few syncing issues in the livestream, so you may have heard an echo if you watched the service live - this has been fixed (for coming Sundays and in the recording attached here).  Take a listen to this Sunday's anthem and see for yourself how great our choir sounds!
